| Modest Mussorgsky: | A Night on Bald Mountain | |
| Sergei Rachmaninoff: | Piano Concerto No. 2 | |
| Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: | Symphony No. 5 |
“[Matsuev’s] poetic instincts held fast in tender moments, with trills as thrillingly precise as one might ever hope to hear.” -New York Times
Mussorgsky's well-known tone poem tells the story of a witches' Sabbath near Kiev, its theme made more famous by Disney's 1940 film Fantasia. Russian powerhouse Denis Matsuev showcases a Russian masterpiece, Rachmaninoff's well-known Piano Concerto No. 2. Tchaikovsky's exciting Symphony No. 5 is even more electrifying when guided by the baton of Music Director, Manfred Honeck.
