Vanessa German is an internationally renowned sculptor and multidisciplinary artist: photographer, painter, actress and poet based in Homewood whose work delves into identity, race, and racism. Her sculptures transform found objects into "21st Century Ju Ju”, and her spoken-word performances give a voice to the African-American female experience. Vanessa is also an activist, she initiated an anti-violence campaign in Homewood and established an "Art House" where neighborhood children have the opportunity to express themselves through art. She will talk about her work with Heather Arnet, Filmmaker, Playwright, and CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation.
