The 2024-2025 Broadway in Pittsburgh Season Is Startin’ Somethin’

It’s official! Our 2024-2025 Broadway in Pittsburgh lineup is no longer a secret, and the excitement just keeps building. As we prepare to bring these ten incredible shows to the Benedum Center, let’s explore what makes each production sing on its own and harmonize as a collective.

For us, the season illustrates what happens when we dare to imagine the world in a different way. Yes, a lot about these stories are familiar… well-known historical figures, beloved literary tales, and modern icons; but there is much more revealed when we peak behind the curtain.

Let’s take a deeper dive into these amazing stories!

Hamilton

In 2019, this show made more than one kind of history! Thanks to the great excitement from Pittsburghers, it became the fastest selling and highest grossing production in modern times and brought in a record number of PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh season ticket holders.

It’s not difficult to see why Lin-Manuel Miranda’s masterpiece has garnered such popularity—and continues to capture hearts across the globe. With a catchy score that blends hip-hop, jazz, and R&B, Hamilton invites us to embrace the complexities of history as we get to know a different, more nuanced side of Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers.

& Juliet

Next, Shakespeare’s iconic tale receives a pop-infused makeover. We bet you’ll sing along as & Juliet invites you to imagine a world where the heroine doesn’t meet a tragic end. This fun twist on a timeless classic was created by Emmy-winning writer from “Schitt’s Creek.” The concept was sparked by Swedish songwriter Max Martin, who has written some of the biggest pop songs over the last few decades.

A man dressed as Michael Jackson and wearing a black fedora dances in front of a group of young actors.

MJ the Musical

The season’s powerful theme of reimagining continues with MJ the Musical—a feat of multimedia storytelling that allows us to see the King of Pop in a new way. Not a traditional biodrama, this musical centers on Michael Jackson’s unique creative process and collaborations during his 1982 Dangerous world tour. In the words of Michael Jackson, this show invites you to “Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough”!

A young women looks suprised as she holds out her arm for a young man, who holds her hand.

Funny Girl

With an updated book (the script and song lyrics for a show), this version of Funny Girl is special for the same reasons, plus more.

A tribute to all the dreamers out there, Funny Girl’s Fanny Brice defies expectations as she becomes one of the most beloved performers in history. With a score featuring classic songs like "Don’t Rain On My Parade" and "I’m the Greatest Star," this love letter to theatre demonstrates the transformative power of the stage and the magic of a dream come true.

An actor holds up an intricate tiger puppet with one puppeter controlling the animal from the inside.

Life of Pi

Our journey continues with Life of Pi—a production that you must see to believe. The stunning puppetry is a major highlight for this show, including the jaw-dropping Bengal tiger puppet that shares the tiny lifeboat with the human protagonist, Pi.

To illustrate just how amazing these puppets truly are, the tiger in London’s Life of Pi was controlled by not one but seven (!) puppeteers.

Kimberly Akimbo

A coming-of-age tale turned on its head, Kimberly Akimbo gives new meaning to the concepts of growing up and growing old. In this incredibly imaginative story, Kimberly navigates family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, and her first crush—all with unwavering optimism and a sense of adventure.

A group of pirates hold up their swords as Peter Pan floats above them.

Peter Pan

Next, we soar to new heights with Peter Pan, a high-flying musical adventure that has enchanted audiences for generations. With its iconic songs and timeless story of magic and wonder, this adaptation invites us to rediscover the childlike joy of imagination and the power of believing in the impossible.

Some Like it Hot

Based on the beloved 1959 movie comedy, this new musical reinvents the premise of struggling musicians. This time around, these artists disguise themselves as women in an all-female band while on the run from mobsters. Driven by high-energy songs and the sound of tap shoes on stage, this gender-bending production is sure to entertain you.

STOMP

Find out what all the noise is about by coming to see STOMP for yourself. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. The return of this percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans.

Come From Away blog

Come From Away

Finally, we couldn’t resist bringing Come From Away to Pittsburgh for a second time. This breath-taking musical tells the true story of 7,000 passengers who are stranded in the small town of Newfoundland on 9/11.

Come From Away is so powerful that Beverly Bass, the pilot who flew those passengers to safety, has come to see just around 100 performances of the show! We hope to convince you to see it at least once.
